“And I thought about how many people have loved those songs. And how many people got through a lot of bad times because of those songs. And how many people enjoyed good times with those songs. And how much those songs really mean. I think it would be great to have written one of those songs. I bet if I wrote one of them, I would be very proud. I hope the people who wrote those songs are happy. I hope they feel it's enough. I really do because they've made me happy. And I'm only one person.”

Musician - I wanted to be:
Here in this page I most likely put only the songs that are close to my heart. I have still not thought about reviewing songs (which I used to do regularly in my previous blog). I also have not thought of how to arrange the songs or the playlist so that one can get most out of it. I just didn't want to waste time further and wanted readers to know one of my sides which is very precious to me. To be truthful, though I like music but I would not say I am an voracious listener. I have very limited of genre to offer as a choice list. Even in my very outrageous day I would hover around Rock, Jazz or at-best Gangsta-Rap. My days filled with Rabindra-Sangeet, Ghazals, Hindi old film songs, some of the very niche-oriented bengali singers, country and pop English. So, very rare that you will ever find any metal, hard rock, R&B soul, afro-beat/pop as my play-listed music here.
Particularly when I am talking about music I should mention the influence I got from my family as I mentioned in my previous post. As an isolation-seeker somehow I had affinity over R.D. Barman's music. The love and closeness still lingers and I still can not find any music as much as it touches my feelings and surroundings. To me his music which are instrumentally bold and experimented are exceptionally catching. In my dead evenings or afternoon or deep saddened nights I listen to him for hours. The way his music connects with me, I never feel any other does. Most of his songs belong to hindi old film songs category.
Rabindranath Tagore had done it all, seldom we as a Bengali find any subject has not been touched by him in his songs or poems. Interestingly this multifaceted talent also composed numerous music for his songs. And I sometimes feel dumbfound when I think how prudent he was in that era when I see most of his creations were being copy righted! Salute to this greatest Bengali of all time.
Ghazals are an extra ordinary form of urdu (or persian) poems which are being put in music. If musically R.D Barman connects with me, Jagjit Singh would be the singer who has the ability to make my day. My most favorite singer who has the knack to mesmerize me each time he gets a peek! His flawless voice, soothing tone, extremely well written songs are simply the reason of my being intoxicated. This genre of music and poems (usually called sher in Urdu) have been rejuvenated by this legend. I have a wide range of interest of the poems to understand and translating them. These poems are mostly about infidelity, sorrows, wine and surprising enough about loving the Almighty. Very interesting genre of music still very unknown to most of the part of the world.
If I only talk about music composing without putting any word in it, Ananda Shankar is the perfect example. A widely recognized face in East Indian music arena this maestro had made some never-been-done indian instruments with Jazz funk fusions in 60s. His albums were well acclaimed and received by Indian audience as well as western. You will find some of my very favorite compositions by him in this page to give an idea of this talent.
This page will be updated and edited and is a tribute to all the people who introduced me with this amazing world of music.
